Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Kigali-Nyungwe Forest national park – canopy walk
Our 2-day Nyungwe forest national park safari begins early in the morning with pickup from your hotel or preferred location in Kigali. After meeting your professional safari guide, you will depart Kigali and travel towards southwestern Rwanda.
The journey to Nyungwe takes you through Rwanda’s beautiful countryside. The journey takes approximately a 4–5-hour drive and offers scenic views of rolling hills, local communities, plantations and changing landscapes along the way. Your guide will give you more information about the areas as you pass through them to make your Rwanda trip interesting and comfortable.
Upon arriving in the Nyungwe forest area, you will have lunch before you move on to your next afternoon activity.
Your afternoon will be spent on the canopy walk in Nyungwe, if it fits into the program and is available. High above the ground, the canopy walk provides an unusual view of the rainforest and a magnificent view of the forest scenery.
During the walk you can observe birds, butterflies and primates in the midst of the peaceful environment of one of the best natural spots in Rwanda.
At the end of your walk, you will go to your hotel to relax and have dinner.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking – Return to Kigali
You will have breakfast and head to the place where the chimps trekking starts.
Upon having a briefing from the park officials and the professional chimps trekking guides, you will venture into the forest on a quest to find habituated chimps. The period of the trek depends on the position and movements of the chimpanzees.
During the trek through the forest, your guide will assist you to locate and observe the chimps and other animals. Along the way, you may come across other primates, forest birds, butterflies and many plant species.
After your experience with the chimpanzee trekking is over, you will return for lunch and prepare for the journey back to Kigali.
After lunch, drive out of the Nyungwe forest region and head back to Kigali. Upon arrival, you will be dropped off at your hotel or any other destination you may choose to be taken to.
