This is a 5 days Uganda gorilla trekking and Rwanda hiking safari in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, where you will meet the gorillas and get transferred to Rwanda for a hike to Mount Bisoke that takes approximately 6 hours to the summit and back. You will connect to Rwanda from Uganda via the Cyanika border, and you will have a Rwanda tour in Kigali to the Kigali genocide memorial, which gives more information about what happened during the 1994 Rwanda genocide.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

On day 1 of the 5 days Uganda gorilla trekking and Rwanda hiking safari, in a hotel in Kampala, after summarising your breakfast in the morning, the guide will connect with you about tell you about the Uganda safari. You will then head to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park with a stopover at Igongo Cultural Centre for a cultural experience. You will dive into the history, traditions and culture of the ancient Ankole. You will also have lunch at Igongo Cultural Centre, and then you will proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

You will have an optional visit to the Batwa community, where you will be able to see the Batwa. The Batwa will teach you their lifestyle, including how they prepare their food locally, their hunting skills, among others. You will have dinner and spend the night at the lodge that you will check into at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park when you arrive.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking

On day 2 of the 5 days Uganda gorilla trekking and Rwanda hiking safari, you will have breakfast while in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, and you will proceed with a briefing at the park headquarters with your lunch packed for you. You will meet the guides to will explain to you about the gorilla trekking in Bwindi and what is needed. You will then get an armed ranger guide who will lead the trek.

Gorilla trekking will be done in the forest, and it will take about 1 to 7 hours, depending on the location of the gorillas. You will have an hour with them, and then you will be transferred to the lodge after taking notes on how they behave in their natural habitat, and also taking their videos and pictures. You will have dinner in the evening, and then you will retire to bed for the night’s rest.

Day 3: Transfer to Rwanda

On day 3 of the 5 days Uganda gorilla trekking and Rwanda hiking safari, you will have breakfast at the lodge in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, and then you will be transferred to Rwanda via the Cyanika border. You will arrive in Kigali and have your lunch at a hotel. You will have a tour of Kigali city after lunch.

You will visit the Kigali genocide memorial, a place that was gazetted in respect of those who engaged in the 1994 Rwanda genocide. You will see the remains of the Rwandese from the 1994 Rwanda genocide kept at this place. The guide will take you around as they tell you about the happenings in the Rwandan genocide. You will then get to a hotel in Kigali, where you will spend the night and also have your dinner.

Day 4: Hike to Mount Bisoke

On day 4 of the 5 days Uganda gorilla trekking and Rwanda hiking safari, you will start with an early morning breakfast at the hotel in Kigali, and then the guide will transfer you to Volcanoes National Park. You will arrive at the park headquarters for a briefing about the hike to Mount Bisoke, and you will be allocated a guide who is well conversant with the hiking trails. You will get the hiking sticks at the park headquarters, and you will set off with bottled water and a lunch meal.

Hiking to the summit of Mount Bisoke takes approximately 4 hours, but this depends on your fitness levels. You will encounter wildlife species and landforms, but the views of other Volcanic mountains. When you get to the summit, you will explore it and have your packed lunch. After the lunch meal, you will descend back to the starting point, which takes about 2 hours. When you get to where you started the hike from, you will be transferred back to the lodge by a guide. You will have dinner and then retire to bed.

Day 5: Transfer back to Kampala

On day 5 of the 5 days Uganda gorilla trekking and Rwanda hiking safari, you will have breakfast at the lodge at your own pace, and then you will check out of the lodge. The guide will transfer you from Volcanoes National Park, and you will head back to Kampala. You will pass via Cyanika border, and you will have a stop at a hotel, and you will have lunch.

You will proceed with the journey to Kampala, and you will branch at Kayabwe at the equator monument for pictures and souvenirs. You will then proceed to a lodge in Kampala, and that will finalise the safari.
