Gorilla trekking
Gorilla trekking is, without a doubt, the best thing to do in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, and it’s easy to see why; more than half of the world’s population of mountain gorillas resides in this forest. Gorilla trekking in Bwindi begins with a briefing at the park headquarters at 8:00 AM by the ranger guide and allocation of gorilla families to visit. Up to 8 people, maximum, per group per day. And at the moment, there are more than 12 wild and vibrant groups scattered over different parts of the forest.
After the briefing is complete, you will begin your journey into the lush jungle with your guide ahead of you, cutting a pathway. The trek can be 2-8 hours long, depending on gorilla movements, but usually park rangers will enter the forest early and try to track the gorillas from where they were last seen the day before. When you meet these wonderful animals in the wild, you can spend up to a maximum of 1 hour viewing and taking pictures of them. After your gorilla encounter, enjoy your packed lunch and then exit the forest to return to the start.
